Mouth ulcers are painful sores that can appear in the mouth, usually on the inside of the cheeks or gums. Because they are sores, they tend to be painful when touched, especially when eating, brushing teeth, and drinking beverages. Mouth ulcers are not like mouth herpes, they are not a sexually transmitted disease. As such, they cannot be acquired from someone else. Depending on the size of the ulcer, it can determine the severity and length of time to heal.
