Embarrassed of having smelly feet? No longer! Fight foot odour with foot sprays and foot powders!
Having smelly feet is a type of body odour and a common condition known as bromodosis. The feet have more sweat glands than any other part of the body, and unlike the body's other sweat glands, the sweat glands in the feet secrete all the time. The feet naturally are also home to millions of bacteria. When the feet's sweat glands produce perspiration, these bacteria in the feet grow and reproduce. When the feet sweat excessively, it's like the bacteria are having a feast! These bacteria are responsible for producing the unpleasant smell that is foot odour. Other conditions like athlete's foot or jock's itch can also cause the feet to be smelly.
Causes of foot odour
Foot odours happen because of excessive sweating. Some medical conditions, like hyperhidrosis, cause abnormally increased sweating. Hormonal changes among teenagers and pregnant women can also cause them to sweat more. There are other factors that can contribute to the feet becoming smelly. Wearing the same shoes everyday will cause the sweat to soak into the material of the shoes. Having poor personal hygiene will increase the chances of having foot odour.
Preventing foot odour
To prevent foot odour, a person can wear socks and even bring along a change of a pair or two. One should use wool or cotton socks, or sports socks, which are more absorbent than nylon socks. In addition, one can change shoes at least every other day. Maintaining good personal hygiene and washing the feet every day will also lower the risk of having foot odour. Moreover, a person can use antiperspirants and foot sprays or foot powder on their feet. One can use antibacterial foot scrubs to eliminate the bacteria in the feet.
