While various species of agrimony are found in many continents of the world, the one featured in Agritonik is Agrimonia Eupatoria which grows throughout Europe, Asia, and Africa. The source of agrimony was carefully selected for its genus and species as well as its superior bioenergetic properties.
Agrimony has a long history of medicinal use going back to the ancient Egyptians, due to its remarkable qualities. The herb was used extensively by Maria Treben, a famous herbalist from Austria, who called agrimonyone of our most valued herbs. The English poet Michael Drayton once hailed it as an "all-heal" and through the ages it was considered a panacea. In ancient times is was used for foot baths and tired feet. Ancient Greeks used it treat eye ailments, diarrhea and disorders of the gallbladder, liver, and kidney. Anglo-Saxons made a solution from the leaves and seeds for healing wounds. The 9th-century English medicine texts advised the use of Agrimony as a cure for male impotence.
Common Current Uses
Traditional Austrian medicine uses agrimony as tea for disorders related to the liver and bile, gastrointestinal, and respiratory tract. The English use it to make a delicious "spring" or "diet" drink for purifying the blood. It is considered especially useful as a tonic for aiding recovery from winter colds, fevers, and diarrhea.
Agrimony is frequently used in alternative medicine as an herbal mouthwash and gargle ingredient, and is applied externally in the form of a lotion to minor sores, skin eruptions, pimples, blotches, blemishes. It is also used for sore throat, upset stomach, ulcers, mild diarrhea, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), diabetes, gallbladder disorders, fluid retention, cancer, tuberculosis, bleeding, corns, and warts; and as a gargle, heart tonic, sedative, and antihistamine.
Indications for use:General Tonic
We suggest using Agritonik as a daily tonic as a tea or in raw food recipes. When added to foods such as kefir, fermented veggies, seed cheeses while they are fermenting, it aids in promoting strength of the beneficial probiotic bacteria to grow strong while preventing harmful bacteria from forming on the food.
Add 1-2 teaspoons per 8 ounces of hot water or other tea. Steep for 10 minutes. Enjoy with or without honey.
Add 1-2 tablespoons per batch of fermented food. Ask us for specific recipes if you would like.
