Remifemin Plus St.John’s Wort, as the name indicates is a stronger version of the original Remifemin herbal medicine for relief of climacteric symptoms during menopause. Along with an increased amount of the proprietary extract of Actaea racemosa (Cimicifuga racemosa/black cohosh), Remifemin Plus St.John’s Wort also contains St. John's Wort to support feeling more balanced.
Remifemin Plus St.John’s Wort is used to relieve climacteric menopausal symptoms such as hot flushes and night sweating as well as associated psychovegetative complaints often arising from menopause including nervous tension, irritability and agitation.
Remifemin is a naturally derived alternative for the relief of the uncomfortable symptoms of menopause.
Remifemin and Remifemin Plus St.John’s Wort contain a proprietary plant extract of Actaea racemosa (Cimicifuga racemosa/black cohosh) that has been the subject of more than 20 clinical studies in the last twenty years. Boasting 60 years of experience in menopause symptom relief, Remifemin first became available in Germany in 1956 and has since been used by millions of women worldwide.
Remifemin does not contain any form of hormone.
Which Remifemin product is most suitable for me?
Remifemin Plus St.John’s Wort was formulated to target stronger symptoms.
Remifemin contains the standard dosage and is well suited to women with milder symptoms, once symptoms are under control or once symptoms are subsiding during the later course of menopause.
Sleep by Remifemin is specifically for nervous restlessness, insomnia and poor sleep quality and is intended to complement either Remifemin or Remifemin Plus St.John’s Wort as added assistance to help overcome any sleep difficulties during menopause. It can also be used on its own to promote calm and restfulness and healthy sleep quality during peri-menopause and post menopause.
How long will it take to work and how long can I take it for?
This will vary for each individual. Most women report relief after two to four weeks. As the results of treatment improve further on prolonged administration, Remifemin Plus St.John’s Wort should be taken over a longer period. In order to avoid overlooking other diseases, a doctor should be consulted after six months.
What age can you use Remifemin Plus St.John’s Wort?
From their mid to late 40's some women can experience early symptoms of menopause such as anxiety and emotional sensitivity as their bodies begin to change. The pre- or peri-menopausal period can last for several years and even whilst still menstruating, women can benefit from taking Remifemin Plus St.John’s Wort to provide relief of symptoms during this transition. Your GP should be consulted first to assess if symptoms are menopause related or due to other medical conditions.
Always take Remifemin Plus St.John’s Wort exactly as described in this leaflet. You should check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.
Unless otherwise prescribed, the recommended dose is one film-coated tablet twice a day. If necessary, you can increase this to two film-coated tablets twice a day.
Take the tablets in the morning and evening unchewed with some liquid. You can take the tablets independently from meals. If you forget to take Remifemin Plus St.John’s Wort do not take a double dose to make up for it.
Taking Remifemin Plus St.John’s Wort with other medications:
Remifemin Plus St.John’s Wort contains St. John's Wort. The active substances of St. John's Wort may accelerate the excretion of other medicinal agents and thus reduce the efficacy of these substances. Before taking Remifemin Plus St.John’s Wort your doctor will consider the possible interactions including:
- Reduction of effects of digoxin, verapamil, simvastatin, midazolam and anticoagulants (phenprocoumon, warfarin).
- Women taking oral contraceptives should be advised of the possibility of interaction causing intermenstrual bleeding and of the possible need for additional contraceptive measures. In case of simultaneous intake of certain active agents for the treatment of depression (trazodone, paroxetine, sertraline) adverse reactions such as nausea, vomiting, anxiety, restlessness and confusion may increasingly occur in some cases.
- If given simultaneously with other medicines, which increase skin photosensitivity, an increase in the phototoxic effects is possible.
Take special care
If you experience any menstrual problems or your menstruation reappears. Also, if unexplained symptoms persist or new symptoms appear you should consult a doctor. If you take oestrogens concurrently this should be done only under medical supervision. If you are pregnant or breast feeding the use of Remifemin Plus St.John’s Wort is not recommended. If you have been treated or you are undergoing treatment for breast cancer or other hormone dependent tumours you should not use Remifemin Plus St.John’s Wort without medical advice. If you have a pre-existing liver condition, Remifemin Plus St.John’s Wort should only be taken after consultation with your doctor.
