Sugar Balance (Diabetes)
Sugar balance in the blood is maintained by the action of insulin secreted by the beta cells of the pancreatic organ. An impaired sugar balance occurs when there is not enough insulin or insulin sensitivity among cells is decreased. When sugar balance is left uncorrected, it can develop into diabetes.
Diabetes is often classified into type 1 or type 2 depending on the action of insulin. Insulin shots are given to diabetes patients whose pancreatic cells can’t synthesize insulin.
