Medihoney Antibacterial Honey Apinate Dressing
• Provides an effective antibacterial barrier that inhibits bacterial growth including antibiotic-resistant strains.
• Biofilms are complex communities of bacteria and fungi within an extracellular matrix on the wound bed2. Preliminary studies have shown Medihoney™ dressings provide a micro-environment that inhibits biofilm formation.
• Medihoney™ dressings help reduce oedema, pain and exudate associated with a protracted inflammatory response.
• The osmotic action of Medihoney™ dressings help clean the wound and lift debris into the antibacterial micro-environment of the dressing, inhibiting the bacteria that can cause malodour. Fast, effective autolytic debridement of sloughy and necrotic tissue is achieved and malodour is rapidly removed.
• The use of Medihoney™ dressings can significantly reduce surface wound pH6. The creation of an acidic environment can help reduce protease activity, increase fibroblast activity and increase oxygen release, consequently aiding wound healing.
• Provides a moist wound healing environment enhancing the granulation and epithelialisation processes and reducing trauma and pain at dressing change.
Medihoney™ dressings have been shown to improve healing rates by up to 30% compared to standard dressings8 and to provide faster debridement than some hydrogels.
Medihoney™ Antibacterial Honey Apinate™ Dressing creates a microenvironment that supports healing and provides an antibacterial barrier.

DIRECTIONS FOR USE
1. Protect vulnerable wound edges with a suitable barrier cream such as Medihoney™ Barrier Cream.
2. Place the dressing onto the wound surface ensuring that the dressing is in contact with the wound bed. Dressings can be placed side by
side to cover large areas. Medihoney™ Antibacterial Honey Apinate™ Dressing should be cut with sterile scissors or folded to fit the shape
of the wound. Alternatively the wound may be filled with Medihoney™ Antibacterial Medical Honey™ before applying Medihoney™ Antibacterial Honey Apinate™ Dressing.
3. A suitable non-adherent sterile pad or dressing should be applied to cover the Medihoney™ Antibacterial Honey Apinate™ Dressing. The
dressing should be sufficiently absorbent to manage wound exudate.
4. The wound may be cleaned between dressing changes in accordance with standard wound cleaning protocol.
Frequency of change: The Medihoney™ Antibacterial Honey Apinate™
Dressing requires changing when the dressing has been diluted by wound exudate. The dressing may be left in place for up to 7 days depending on wound exudate. If maceration of the surrounding skin occurs more frequent changing of the dressing is required.
