Pregnancy is a time of change on so many realms, from hormonal to physical to emotional and nutritional. Scientific research has reaffirmed what Mother Nature has long known – a healthy mother is one of the most important gifts a woman can give to herdeveloping baby. The requirements for many nutrients are increased during pregnancy and deficiencies can affect the growth, health and development of the foetus. In fact, it is now understood that the mother’s nutritional status during pregnancy can influence the baby’s health in adulthood and their risk for developing chronic disease. While it goes without saying that a nutritious diet is vital for the expectant mother, supplements are now being advocated, not just for those with low nutrient status, but for otherwise healthy pregnant women.
Clinicians PregaVit is a scientifically researched multivitamin and mineral formula designed to support a healthy diet during pregnancy. It contains the full compliment of B-group vitamins as well as trace and macro minerals.
Clinicians PregaVit has been formulated with New Zealand conditions in mind which is why it includes both iodine and selenium. Both these minerals are known to be deficient in New Zealand soils yet are so important for baby’s physical and mental development. Just as certain nutrients have been included that aren’t ordinarily in pregnancy formulations, others have specifically been excluded based upon the literature. For example, iron is not in Clinicians PregaVit because this mineral should only be given if there is a proven need for supplementation.
Another unique feature of Clinicians PregaVit is the bioflavonoid rutin which is important for supporting capillary strength and circulation during pregnancy to help protect against varicose veins and haemorrhoids. Clinicians PregaVit is contains another important vitamin (vitamin A). Both an excess of vitamin A (above 10,000 IU or 3000mcg per day) and a deficiency during pregnancy have been associated with birth defects. Supplemental vitamin A in doses of up to 3000mcg/day (10,000 IU) are not associated with any increase in the risk of vitamin-A associated birth defects. In fact, global studies have demonstrated a reduced incidence of birth defects when vitamin A is supplemented during pregnancy in doses below or up to 6000 IU (1800mcg)/day.
Clinicians PregaVit is designed for mothers who want the best for both baby and their own health during pregnancy. This formula can also be safely taken when breast feeding for ongoing nutrient replenishment and support.

This product contains the Recommended Daily Allowance (RDA) for Vitamin A during pregnancy (2566 IU or 770mcg/day). Total Vitamin A intake from dietary and supplemental sources should not exceed 4 times the RDA (10,000 IU or 3000 mcg/day). Therefore women should not consume more than 10,000 IU of vitamin A per day during pregnancy as amounts above this level have been shown (especially during the first seven weeks of pregnancy) to cause birth defects in approximately 2% of pregnant women.
Dietary supplements are additional to, and not a replacement for a balanced diet. Always read the label. Use as directed. Do not exceed the recommended daily dose. Pregnant or lactating women should consult their health professional before taking supplements. If symptoms persist, see your health professional. Store in a cool, dry place out of reach of young children.
