Cholesterol is a fatty substance in the body that has several vital roles. It is a building block for various hormones and bile acids, and it plays a major role in stabilising cell membranes. Remember that elevated cholesterol levels may be a major cause of cardiovascular disease but cholesterol is not the only contributing risk factor, other important factors to consider are homocysteine levels, blood pressure, inflammation, cortisol levels, insulin resistance, obesity, stress, hormones, lifestyle, diet, toxicity, medical history, physical exercise, and hereditary factors.
