Candida is an overgrowth of yeast fungus resulting in an imbalance of the natural micro-organismms present in the vagina. In this condition the Candida organism predominates causing the symptoms of discomfort and discharge. Diabetes, obesity, illness, and fatigue can increase susceptibility to the condition. Hormonal fluctuations during pregnancy, at certain times of the menstrual cycle, or due to the oral contraceptive pill, can also increase susceptibility.
