Dermascar Silicone Gel for Scar Reduction 15g

Topical silicone gel is clinically proven to lighten, soften and flatten scars. DermaScar is an advanced topical silicone gel that improves the long-term appearance of scars and helps to relieve itching, pain and discomfort associated with scars. The use of silicone gels, such as DermaScar, is recommended by plastic surgeons and dermatologists as a first-line treatment for scars, especially raised scars. Unlike some other scar treatments, DermaScar can be easily applied to most areas of the body, including the face and joints.  DermaScar effectively prevents and treats raised scars, such as hypertrophic and keloid scars, and has also been successfully used to treat scars caused by trauma, burns and surgery.

The most important benefit of DermaScar is that it is a simple and effective treatment for scars, especially raised (hypertrophic and keloid) scars.DermaScar can be used to improve the appearance of a wide range of scars including those caused by physical trauma, burns and surgery.  With regular use DermaScar improves the long-term appearance of scars, making them flatter, paler, softer and more flexible. DermaScar also helps to relieve the pain and itchiness that is caused as scars form. DermaScar is a rapid-drying, clear, odourless gel with good cosmetic properties:

    • It is smooth and easy to apply avoiding unnecessary pain and damage to already fragile skin.
    • It allows make-up to be applied immediately after it has dried.
    • It does not rub off or leave unsightly residues on clothes.

As DermaScar is a gel, it can be easily applied to most parts of the body including the face and over joints (knees and elbows). As DermaScar forms a moisture resistant but breathable barrier, just like a “second skin”, it does not cause unsightly maceration – where the skin becomes pale, moist, wrinkled and soggy, as can occur after using an adhesive bandage over a minor cut. As the invisible barrier created by DermaScar lasts for up to 12 hours on the skin, it only needs to be applied twice per day, once in the morning and once in the evening.

    Step 1

Apply DermaScar twice daily – in the morning and evening.  DermaScar must be applied to dry, intact skin. If you have a scar from surgery, check that the wound has healed first before applying DermaScar. This is typically 10 to 14 days after surgery. Before applying DermaScar clean the area first with mild soap and water and then pat dry. Important information: A wound is normally healed when it is closed and dry. If the wound is wet or weeping it may not be fully healed. If you have any doubts check with your doctor or pharmacist.

    Step 2

Place a pea-size amount of gel at the tip of the scar and gently spread thinly over the affected area. A pea-size amount is enough to cover a 12cm scar. A little amount goes a long way, so just use enough DermaScar gel to thinly cover all of your scar. There is no added benefit of using extra gel or to apply a thick layer. All that will happen is that it will take longer to dry. If the scar is on your face be careful not to get any gel near or in your eyes. DermaScar is not for internal use.

    Step 3

Allow the gel to dry for 1 to 2 minutes. Once dry, DermaScar may be covered with cosmetics or sunscreen. If DermaScar takes longer than 2 minutes to dry you have applied too much. Take note of how much you used and when it is time to apply the next dose of DermaScar in 12 hours time, remember to use a little less. Remember, applying extra DermaScar does not increase its effectiveness.

To help achieve the full healing benefits of DermaScar, it is important that you apply DermaScar each morning and night for at least 2 months as scars can continue to form for up to a year after the initial injury.

It can take up to a month before visible improvements are noticed and for large scars treatment may need to be continued for longer than 2 months to achieve the best possible results.

DermaScar is for external use only – it should not be applied to open or fresh wounds, placed in contact with mucous membranes or too close to the eyes.

DermaScar should not be applied over antibiotic skin preparations or other skin treatments or products.

DermaScar should only be applied to closed wounds, and not applied to open or wet wounds.

Do not use DermaScar in conjunction with other skin medications without first seeking the advice of your doctor.
