Dosage
Linotar Gels are available in three strengths based on their Coal Tar concentration. Gel 1 contains 1% Coal Tar, Gel 2 contains 2%, and Gel 3 contains 3%.
Begin with Gel 1 and dilute where required, or Gel 2 and introduce Gel 3 ONLY after Gel 2 has been established and there are some persistent lesions which have not fully responded to Gel 2.
For the body: Cleanse first. If linotar gel is applied to an oily skin then it's penetration is reduced. Apply a thin layer of the appropriate strength linotar gel to the affected area and allow to dry. As a rule if the area is not dry in 2 mins then too much was applied. If using on the body then apply the linotar PSE cream over the top. This process should be repeated 2 to 3 times daily or as your personal circumstances allow. For face and scalp: Clease first (as above), apply appropriate gel to affected area. If using on the scalp apply directly to lesions (There is no need to rub the gel through hair.) Allow gel to dry. Apply linotar lotion over the top. (as with PSE cream)
Ingredients
Linotar gel is a mixture of coal tar and essential fatty acids (originally derived from banana skins) Linotar gel is available in different strenghts depending on the coal tar content. Linotar gel 1 has 1% coal tar , gel 2 has 2% and gel 3 has 3% coal tar as the active ingredient. Care has to be taken in chosing the strenght of linotar gel used, because if the concentration of the coal tar is too strong the lesions could flare up retarding the remission process. It is important to consider the age, skin condition and position of lesions when chosing your gel strenght.
Purpose/Usage
Linotar Gel for Eczema and Psoriasis Treatment.
Linotar Gel is convenient to apply. The treatment procedure is simple and should not be time consuming.
Psoriasis
Psoriasis is a disease which can present as raised swollen lesions covered with silvery scales and crusts of varying thickness on the skin. There are many forms of psoriasis including common or plaque-type, flexural, guttate, pustular, erythrodermic and psoriasis of the nails. Consult your doctor for a diagnosis.
The Cause of Psoriasis
The cause of psoriasis is unknown and very unpredictable. Although its symptoms may be treated, no known cure is available at the moment. For example, it may go away by itself, flare up without warning or persist chronically. The possible triggers could be climate that weaken body's immune system such as infection, stress hormones, alcohol, high cholesterol and blood sugar levels, incorrect eating habits, certain drugs etc.
Eczema
Eczema is an inflammation of the skin which often itches intensely. If untreated the condition can become swollen, sometimes with tiny blisters which burst and weep; it may form a crust and the skin can thicken with the outer layer flaking.
There are various types of eczema including external eczema (allergic, irritant, photodermatitis), internal eczema (atopic, seborrhoeic, discoid, pompholyx, gravitational).
The Cause of Eczema
The condition can be a reaction to an allergen or irritant, either from the skins contact, or inhaled or taken orally (normally foodstuffs, pollens or house mite dust).
For Eczema Sufferers:
For eczema sufferers it is suggested that they begin with Linotar Gel 1 and dilute where necessary as indicated for very sensitive skin. Please note strength of Linotar Gel for young children and babies with sensitive skin.
Linotar PSE Cream (available in 100 & 250ml sizes)
Linotar Gel has been specially formulated to be as oil and fat free as possible in order to enable it to penetrate deeply into the skin. Consequently, it will be inclined to dry out the skin even more. Therefore we suggest you use a moisturising cream over the Gel and, for this purpose, we recommend Linotar PSE Cream as a body moisturiser.
Linotar Lotion (available in 250ml size)
The scalp and face will also require a moisturiser. Linotar Lotion is a specially formulated moisturiser for the face and scalp. If you have lesion on your face and scalp we suggest you add this item to your kit.
Precautions
If you are allergic to Coal Tar, STOP TREATMENT. Do not use for a prolonged period without consulting a medical practioner. Do not use io conjunction with other forms of psoriasis therapy without consulting a medical practioner.
