Novalac Sweet Dreams (for hungry and sleepless babies) contains carbohydrates which lower the GI, and increased casein to slow gastric emptying, for a longer lasting feeling of satiety.
Purpose/Usage The effects of excessive hunger
While most infants only need feeding every four hours or so, some start to feel hungry much sooner ? sometimes every 1.5 or 2 hours.
They wake often through the night due to hunger and find it hard to settle, becoming tired and crying much of the time. There is a severe risk of overfeeding these infants if formula is fed on demand.
After a meal, amino acids, glucose and fatty acids are absorbed into the bloodstream, causing a feeling of fullness. As the nutrients are utilised and their concentration in the blood falls, hunger signals start again.
Note: If you are bottlefeeding, changing your baby's formula to a specialist formla designed for hungry babies can help. This way, your baby can feel satisfied for longer, without the risk of overfeeding. Don't be tempted to introduce solids too early (before 6 months) or add cereal to a feed. How Novalac Sweet Dreams helps
Novalac Sweet Dreams has the same energy content as standard formula, but provides a longer-lasting feeling of fullness.
The ingredients are adjusted to lower the Glycaemic Index and slow gastric emptying.
It contains higher levels of slowly digested maltodextrins and starch, and reduced amounts of rapidly assimilated lactose and glucose. Raised casein levels and increased levels of long chain fatty acids also help slow gastric emptying.
Novalac Sweet Dreams is nutritionally complete and can be used as the infant?s regular formula.
